Sports Seasons Begin

Baseball season

Mrs. Jarvis is looking forward to the snow melting and the baseball field drying up so baseball season can start! The tournament is set for June 6, so baseball players need to get on the field soon!


Floor Hockey

Gr. 3 – 6 students have been enjoying intramural floor hockey during recesses since the March Break. Gr. 7 & 8 students have been coaching the teams. Two boys teams and two girls teams will be going to Ecole St. Joseph to participate in the interschool tournament on May 15. Go SJD!


Curling is Awesome!

Mrs. P. Bernath and Mrs. Lachine are having a great time organizing the curling program at SJD for students from Gr. 4 – 8. Students meet at the curling arena Thursdays after school for an hour of curling fun. The coaches and students are enjoying the curling so much that they want to extend the curling season! Curling

Mrs. P. Bernath is looking forward to organizing curling for our Gr. 5 – 8 students. Eight lucky curlers will be going to Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, February 8 to participate in the annual Algoma District School Board’s Jamcan curling bonspiel.    


Basketball

Basketball season has started for students in Gr. 6 – 8. Practices will be held mainly during lunch hours to accomodate our bus students. Ms. Portis is coaching the girls team, and Ms. Russell is coaching the boys.


Volleyball tournament

The annual elementary volleyball tournament was held at MHS on Wed., Nov. 27. Seven teams competed from Wawa, Dubreuilville, Chapleau and Hornepayne. The boys team comprised of Matthew, Ethan, Shyane, Chris, Dylan, Peter, Dominic, Josh, DJ and Brandon played to a third place finish and was coached by Ms. Russell.. ADSB Cross-Country Running Meet

On Oct. 10, Mrs. Chandor-Hall, Mrs. Johnson, parents and the Running Club headed to SSM for the annual ADSB running meet at Kinsmen Park. Wawa Cup Soccer Tournament

Ms. Portis was very proud of her Gr. 6 – 8 soccer team’s results at the 19th annual Wawa Cup soccer tournament on October 2. The team lost only one game during the tournament. Running Club begins

Running Club practices are Mon., Wed., and Thurs. after school from 3:20 – 4:00 at Queen’s Park for Gr. 1 – 8 students. Mrs. Chandor-Hall will walk younger students to the park. Parents will pick them up. Bus students will also be able to participate during afternoon recesses
